Food Allergy Tests
My daughter was just diagnosed with a milk protien allergy. Can I have her tested for other allergies? Who does the tests? What kinds of tests are they? She is only three and 1/2 months, will the tests work? Thank you for your input. This is all so new and overwhelming.

My daughter was diagnosed with an egg and milk allergy after having an allergic reaction to Enfamil (milk based formula). She was 4 months old when the allergist gave her the skin prick test. She was tested for 13 different allergy agents..the most common ones. I think it was dog, dust, mold, egg, soy, milk, wheat, peanuts, treenuts, cat, shellfish and some others i didn't recognize. The pricks with the milk and egg turned into tiny welts which were measured. After that we took her to get a blood test for milk and egg to see the extent of the allergy. We go back next week to discuss the results. I hope this helps!

Allergy tests
Hello,
My son is 17 months old but since he ws 4 months i started to notice problems with everything milk, food, bread etc... Since day 1 he has had eczema severly and the doctor refused to refer him because for some strange reason he got on his high horse an thought me an my health visitors were under estimating his skills :S
Finally after 13 months of waitin my little boy got his first appointment with the hospitals consultant to start the fight against all these food and skin problems.
Today he recieved a form for his blood test for allergies and when he turns 2 a form for his detailed allergy skin test. He was also put onto Neocate today, so fingers crossed, as I have started to give up hope of him fighting this as everything i have tried so far has let me down [:(] (Including the G.P!)

RAST test
My son has had severe eczema since he was born and we were told it was due to his milk...we changed from regular formula...then to soy...then to nutramigen...then back to soy after being referred to a dermatologist...even with the prescription ointments...he still continued to have flare-ups...finally, at this 1yr check up...his pediatrician said she wanted to test him for food allergies since his eczema still had not gone away (we were told he would grow out of it)...

Anyway, she had him get a RAST blood test...they test about 28 allergens...the results were off the charts...my son is allergic to wheat, soy, corn, shrimp, milk, egg whites and more...so now we're at a point where we are worried about getting him fed properly to ensure that he is getting what he need to grow and develop well and also scared we have to use the epi-pen if he has a severe reaction to something in the food that he is given...

Long story, short...there is a test out there...ask your doctor...I'm not sure why our pediatrician did not opt for the skin test...I will ask her about that at our next visit...

If anyone has any ideas or websites with info on recipes, foods, etc that would help in getting my son the right foods...that would be so helpful!

Thank you to all...I look forward to visiting this site often as we deal with and understand my son's allergies...Grace
