Neocate Formula & Constipation
We started our 5 week old on Neocate for a suspected milk allergy based on symptoms and family history. We went from having mucousy blood tinged stools to rock hard pea gravel stools with a very foul sewage type of smell.

Anyone else have this experience? If so, did it resolve itself or did you have to remedy it somehow? We tried the Karo Syrup in water trick, but that's not helping. Our Dr doesn't seem to know what to tell us.

Thank you for any insight.

our son has been on neocate for almost 3 yrs and we are still battling with the cycle of constipation/diarrhea--dr said this is normal and the green stools are normal too--try getting an rx for miralax

I agree you may have to use either Miralax or Little Tummies to help with the constipation . Not much you can do for that .

Had the same experience today. This information was very helpful! Thank you so much. Will look for little tummies tomorrow. Is the Miralax a prescription only product?

My doctor suggested 2oz of pear juice mixed in with the water for each feeding. seems to work okay, but my daughter's prblem is she won't eat more than about 17 oz per day and she should be having 22 - 27. She is 3mths old any suggests?

Our daughter had reflux from 1 month on and was eating less and less. She went on Prevacid (1/2 pill 2x a day) and on Alimentum formula. We also switched to latex nipples (they are softer) but you MUST replace them frequently (every 2 weeks) otherwise they get sticky and thew hole closes up (do NOT boil them more then once). We went with the Gerber bottles and the best part is they are BspA free and are very inexpensive.
LASTly, we started adding a teaspoon of rice cereal to her formula and used a nipple with a large feed hole (it is cut like a cross instead of a hole) which allows her to feed at the rate she likes. With a hole the food drips out too slow or fast and the baby can't regulate the flow as easily. We take the Gerber Nuk nipples and use an Exacto knife to cut a cross at the end of a size one hole. Once we did that she started eating so well she got back on track with gaining.
Good luck.

Re: Neocate Formula & Constipation
Try giving 1oz. warm water as many times a day as your baby will take it. My daughter has been on the Neocate for 3 weeks now. She's still struggling with constipation, however, the water seems to help her go easier when she does go. We've also being doing medication, Lactulose, prescribed by her GI doctor, which is also helping.
