baby on neocate with constipation
My little boy has been on neocate since 8 weeks old (he's now 13 weeks) after episodes of blood in his stools. The bleeding has stopped since being on neocate but he has great difficulty opening his bowels. He goes about every 2-3 days, he strains ALOT and when his poo is coming out he SCREAMS, quite often his poo is very large and is amongst soft wet poo, sometimes there is no soft wet poo just one big poo so its no wonder he screams. Has anyone else experienced this? Im beginning to wonder if neocate is the wrong milk for him. We are having very little help from our paediatrician.

I've noticed that my daughter also started having some trouble when first on neocate with going poop. She would cry sometimes too if it was really big coming out. I wondered myself and still not sure 100%, but may be it was because I was putting too much powder in each scoop when making the bottles. I try to be more careful about measuring each scoop. I strongly believe that neocate is the right formula for my daughter because besides the occassional constipation, it has helped her in every other way.

Ok....I strongly suggest this, but you can ask your pediatrician too. My son is 10 weeks old, been on Neocate since about 5 weeks old. He is also on a medication for Acid REflux. Anyway, I talked to my doc about the same exact issues you're having and they suggested Milk of Magnesia. My doc suggested 1/4 tsp twice a day, I only give it to him once which pretty much does the trick. He still turns just a little red when he goes, but it's not the big poos it was before and he doesn't scream or cry anymore when he poos....it really helps!

We give our daughter 1 oz of prune juice and it always works.
