Milk protein in Rice Cereal?!
Has anyone had problems giving rice cereal to their babies with a milk allergy? My daughter tried Gerber rice cereal and oatmeal and within 3 hours of ingesting it she was throwing it all up. She would continue to throw up until it was nothing but stomach bile. I told the pediatrician and she said she recalls something about Gerber cereal containing a milk protein and to try Beechnut. We tried the Beechnut cereal and like clockwork, within 3 hours she was throwing up. Anyone had this problem or heard of a milk protein in rice cereal? I'm going to try poi next. I've read that they give poi to infants with severe allergies and babies who are considered 'failure to thrive' because it's so easily digested. We'll see!!

My Neocate son didn't tolerate rice or oat cereal. I tired for a couple of months and then gave up. His symptoms were more intestinal though, gassy etc. He is 2 now and still isn 't a big grain eater, but the grains don't seem to bother him too much. BTW...What is poi?

My CMA daughter can eat Gerber Rice Cereal
Hello:

My daughter is 3 and a half and was diagnosed with cow's milk allergy at 8 months.
She has been eating Rice, mixed grain and oatmeal cereal since she was 6 months old.
As an infant she had it mixed with breast milk, and later when she was weaned from breast feeding we mixed it with to soy milk. she has been eats her rice cereal daily mixed with soy milk even now at 3+.

She absolutely loves it and would eat in for all her meals if given the choice !

This is an update to my post about my daughter's reaction to cereal. After talking with the allergist, she seems to think my daughter has a grain intolerance...more specifically FPIES (food protein-induced enterocolitis syndrome). She throws up everything just hours after eating rice/oatmeal. We were told not to give her any grains and give up on trying different cereals. The good news is the poi worked! Poi is a product of boiling and mashing tarot root. It is found mostly in Hawaii and when mashed and strained it has a purple/gray color and a texture of sticky paste. It's very bland so i was able to give it to my daughter plain, but i've also mixed in mashed bananas and apples for a little taste and additional nutrients. It's a starch and containes protein and potassium. I am going to stick with giving her the poi since we have to forego all other cereals.

Check for Casein, Whey or made or packaged in shared equipment with... I
If the delay its about 3 hours it migh not be the milk allergy but maybe her stomach is not ready for the solids yet... My son has it so severe even shared equipment makes him react, but the reaction is immediate within the first 3 minutes at most. (His is soo severe that if had my am coffe and did not cleaned my lips and give him a kiss on the cheeks at noon he'll have a rash reaction...

Good Luck!
