Question

My daughter turned 2 in April. She was breastfed for 6 months, then had formula until age 1. At one we gave her whole milk (and sometimes 2%). She didn't have any problems with milk until fairly recently. I'd say around June (2 months ago) we noticed she seemed to get real dark, smelly, liquid poop diapers when she would drink milk. We stopped giving her milk for awhile and she seemed to do better. But she would still get those type of diapers occasionally. We had still been giving her yogurt and cheese. It was weird, though, because sometimes she would be fine with yogurt and cheese, and sometimes she would have the diarrhea. We switched to Lactaid (lactose free milk) and she seemed to do ok with that. But still we hadn't cut out all cheese and yogurt. And she would still ocassionally (maybe once every 7-10 days) get the diarrhea. The other day we were out of Lactaid milk and she was crying for a glass of milk, so we gave her some. This was in the evening. The next day she had a really big, dark, smelly bm that came out of her diaper. So I think it is related to the milk. My question is, how do I go about finding out what she can and cannot eat. My friend told me to cut out all dairy for 2 weeks, then try the Lactait for a week and see how she does. If she is fine, then try milk and see if she has a reaction. Then I'll know if it is lactose or dairy she is allergic to. What do you suggest for finding out what she's allergic to? And if I cut out all dairy for 2 weeks like the friend suggested, does that mean no eggs either? What about bread or pancakes that have milk in them? It would be very helpful to have a timetable of what I should cut out when, and for how long, and in what order I should try reintroducing them. And is this common for her to develop an allergy now, when she was fine for 2 yrs?

My son is almost 13 months. He tested positive to milk, egg and peanuts when we did RAST at 7months of age. He was breastfed until 10 months, but his eczema was so severe (even though I had an extremely eliminated diet) I quit breastfeeding. We started him off on soy formula, which he did great for a while, except for a little (but persistent) eczema around the mouth area. Now, at 13 months, I tried some organic soy formula, and went back to Isomil - (I also gave him some tofu and soybean paste soup) and he started pooping 8-10 times a day(it doesn't seem like diarreah because his stool is pretty firm. sometimes loose, but not watery). it's been six days. No other symptoms of illness - no fever, and he plays fine. Pediatirican recommended just giving him oral electrolyte for 24 hours. My pediatrician and i am starting to wonder if he's developed allergies/intolerance to soy now. When he was younger, I tried nutramigen and he would NOT take it. It smelled and tasted nasty. I wonder if Neocate tastes as good as soy formula. Will my son take it? And will it help?
I have a four month old son. When he was born I was brestfeeding and would prejectile vomit, had a rash and would cry all the time. The doctor took him off breast milk and tried infamil with iron, same thing would happen. So then he tried lactofree and then soy, the same thing. Now he is on Alimentum and he is getting worse. Now we have bloody diarrhea and he is losing weight. We have now swtiched doctors and the new doctor is sending him to a specialist in Orlando, FL to evaluate. We do know that he has GERD, but the doctor thinks that there is more. He has been on neocate for the 1 day. Do you think that formula will help him? I do not know much about it, except that it is very expensive.
My 3 year old son has little bumps that come up on his face aems and legs they show up fpr a few min. the disappear. I was wondering if you could tell me possibly what would cause that. Thank you Stacy Keller
My 4.5 month old has suffered from reflux since birth. Along with the vomiting he also has rattling in his chest, coughing, sneezing which his dr has said are side effects of the reflux. At 3 months he developed ecxema. He also suffered from colic which seemed to go away for a week or two and is now back again. I have been breastfeeding my son and had eliminated milk, soy, tree nuts and never ate shellfish the symptoms still persist I have recently tried another hypoallergenic formula and not only did the symptoms not get better he now has a diaper rash which will not go away. During the past few months I have been to see his dr several times and he denies that my son has any food allergies, how can I get him to finally see that there is a problem and take action on my sons part so that he can finally start to feel better? Also is the formula suitable for babies with multiple food allergies?
