Question
Hello. I have a 5 month old who was diagnosed with
allergic colitis at 3 months based on a history of symptoms. At the time of
diagnosis, I went on a series of elimination diets in an attempt to continue breastfeeding. By the end of 8 weeks on the diet(s), I was consuming exactly 5 foods and the diet still didn't produce ANY improvement in symptoms (fussiness, sleeplessness, mucousy stools). She has now been switched to Neocate after a partially successful trial with Nutramigen. On Neocate, the symptoms are better, but now, she is constipated, something we didn't see before, even on Nutramigen. The GI doc suggested diluted apple juice to help with the
constipation. About 4 hours following the apple juice, she vomited what seemed to be the entire amount. The only time I've ever seen her vomit like that is when given medication (Tylenol and a brief try with reflux med). She seems unable to digest anything other than the Neocate. Is it possible that she has some other condition? If so, what could it be? Should she be taking digestive enzymes to help? Please help. Really worried. Thanks,Helen
