Question
My 6 week old son has been diagnosed with severe milk/ milk
protein allergy. He was put on Neocate and within 2 days he was constipated to the point of having to use a glycerin suppository to produce a movement. The movement was extremely hard and green to start and then as it continued became more creamy yet still green. I'm not concerned about the green coloring as i'm sure it is caused by the fact that this particular formula is
amino acid based and higher in many proteins than typical formula. However I have noticed many times that you suggest lactulose to relieve the
constipation. Is there anything else that you suggests? Lactulose if i'm not mistaken is a prescription and i'm curious as to rather or not a child can actually become dependent on such medications and therefore continually require those to produce bowel movements? Thank You.
