Dear Doctor, I am the father of a 9 month old child. Since birth, my child has been breast feeding and produces several rashes on the face that has lead us to think the child suffers from atopic dermatitis. From first analysis the child is intolerant to cows milk, for this reason (weaning), we have always given the child soya milk, in the 7° month we introduced fish to the child’s diet, in the 8° month for a brief period we introduced eggs to the child and for a short period we also gave the child goat's milk. Subsequently, we have carried out the necessary examinations (RAST and PRICK TEST). The results indicate that the child is intolerant to cow's milk, eggs and even goat's milk. What can we do in regards to our child's diet?
Are the Atopic Dermatitis and the Atopic Eczema the same thing?
My grandson has been diagnosed with eczema. He has it on his cheeks, knees and behind them, elbows, one hand, sometimes in his groin area and sometimes on his head. I have heard that this could be an allergy to his formula. The doctor took him off one and put him on soy. It has not helped. He is a year old. What can we give him to imitate milk for the bones? Could this be a allergy? Do we need to look at our laundry detergent? What about the jars of food we give him?Angie

I have a 4 year old child who has had eczema since 6 weeks old and was diagnosed dairy/ peanut/ tree nut allergic multiple RAST tests and skin tests since she was 6 mos. old. I'm currently 23 weeks pregnant w/ #2 and terrified of having another child w/ these allergic tendencies. Neither my husband nor I have any significant personal history of allergies. I spoke w/ my child's allergist the other day about steps I can take to help prevent/ lessen this new child's risk and was very surprised at his professional recommendation. He said that the only diet w/ any proven effectiveness is Neocate from birth on. He said breastfeeding and any other type of formula (including more standard hypoallergenic formulas) are putting this child at risk for developing eczema in particular again. He said there was not much I could do to prevent the food allergies, but if I want to stand a chance w/ the eczema I should skip right to a formula such as Neocate. I was a bit flabbergasted. Does his approach seem logical to you?
My 4.5month baby has developed slight patches of ezema on his skin over the past 2.5months. He also has started diarahea 3-4 times daily. Previously non runny once every day or two. I am wondering could this be a reaction to his formula. He is on cow and gate comfort. He has also been tested for a viral infection but this has come back clear. Thought diarahea was down to teething but now am unsure. Wondering what alternatives of formula are available. Are any tests available to test for milk intolerance etc. Thanks for your help.
Hi, My son is 15 months old and has suffered from a rash on his face, legs and arms since about 5 months - The same time we started solids and Nutramigen after being on Neocate. We had him allergy tested about about 7/8 months old and everything was negative. We just saw a dermatologist and she feels it is caused by an allergy. We have a follow up appt with the allergist for another test in 1 month. I suspect milk is the problem for many reasons. Would you suggest I try to eliminate all dairy, even hidden or wait until our allergy appt. He is drinking Rice milk now, no yogurt or cheese and only has dairy that is hidden. Thank you, Wendy I can send pics also.
My 10 year has some rashes on the side of his lips and on just below his lips it gets dry and sometimes would just be reddish and itch.i was wondering is that an allergy . I had a talk withe doctor about and he says the skin is just dry but it keeps coming back.what to do with it
My daughter is 5 months old and I've been exclusively breastfeeding her up until now. At 2 months, she broke out in a rash all over her body, had watery green mucousy foul smelling stools with blood, and seemed very gasy. Over the months, the lactation consultant, GP and GI had me eliminate milk, soy, eggs, nuts, wheat, and corn from my diet. After doing so, the blood in the stools went away but she still had watery green stools, some gas and she would still occasionally break out in the rash especially on her head and face. She would go crazy scratching herself to the point where she would bleed. Due to the frustration, I am now trying Neocate ( I tried Alimentum and Pregestimal, both did not agree with her). It's been 2 and half days she's been on the Neocate and today she broke out all over her body again. Is this normal? Should I keep her on the formula longer to see a difference and if so, how long? She seems gassy today and arching her back a little. Should I go back to breastfeeding? The GP and GI doctor said it's up to me and I'm confused and frustrated.
My 8 month old showed early signs of dairy intolerance. Everytime I would eat dairy and nurse her, she would spit up and become VERY gassy and irratable. She has been diagnosed with Reflux, and is now on prevacid & Simulac sensative for 3 months (after trying Advanced, aliumentium and soy). I understand this formula has milk in it too, is this the right choice? Should I go back to Soy? My question of dermatitus is this. Along with the milk or Lactose discomfort, she has developed a rash/eczema rash a month ago, and we are introducing many new "baby" foods. I thought it may be fruit, because how could she be developing this rash NOW due to milk. If she was going to get a rash or eczema due to milk wouldn't she have gotten it a long time ago??? Could it be peaches or acidic fruit? Is it a late reaction to milk? my gut says no. Should I get allergy tests on an 8 month old? I am so lost. Thanks
