My 6 week old son has been diagnosed with severe milk/ milk protein allergy. He was put on Neocate and within 2 days he was constipated to the point of having to use a glycerin suppository to produce a movement. The movement was extremely hard and green to start and then as it continued became more creamy yet still green. I'm not concerned about the green coloring as i'm sure it is caused by the fact that this particular formula is amino acid based and higher in many proteins than typical formula. However I have noticed many times that you suggest lactulose to relieve the constipation. Is there anything else that you suggests? Lactulose if i'm not mistaken is a prescription and i'm curious as to rather or not a child can actually become dependent on such medications and therefore continually require those to produce bowel movements? Thank You.
Dear colleagueour little girl was diagnosed with CMPI aged 6 months at GOSH, she was initaially managed with neocate, and then we moved on to neocate active. she is now 3 and a half. as her taste has evolved she has developed a liking for the neocate active, and now alongside her regular food (with indirect cow milk products) she is still drinking neocate activethe question is , is it OK for her to continue like this till she gradually move away from NActive or we should try actively yo discontinue itmany thanks and kind regardsDr Rizvi
My son is 5 weeks old and has been on neocate for a milk protien allergy for 1.5 weeks. Previously tried Alimentum and elimination diet while breastfeeding. His symptoms are mucus in stool and fussiness. The mucus and fussiness are still present. He had small bits of blood on two occasions previously, once while on Alimentum and once while breastfeeding, none since starting neocate. Is this normal, when should his symptoms improve?? Is it possible he has something else that is causing his symptoms?? His sister also had a milk protein allergy and did well on Alimentum
Dear Doctor,My Daughter is allergic to milk and she was on neocate for one year . As per doctor's advice we have introduced soy milk after one year of age and she was fine with that. Now she is 1year 7 month old . We introduced small amount of milk in her diet, immediately she started vomiting again . When will she outgrow this allergy. Is soy milk good for children ?Does it have complete nutrition in it?
Hello. My 7 month old daughter has developed a milk protein allergy. Her pediatrician has prescribed her Neocate. I attempted to replace a breastfeeding for a bottle of the formula but she refused every second of it. She cried and kept pushing the bottle out with her tongue. How can i get her to eat the formula?
Hi,I have a two year old who was allergic to cow's milk from birth and then developed an egg allergy and now a peanut allergy. (he has now outgrown the Cow's Milk allergy). I also have a 3 month old daughter, who since birth has had a runny nose, reflux, mild colic and initally excessive bowel movements (even for a newborn- in excess of 10 times a day!). She was initially being breast fed, but due to a hospital stay around 5 weeks for bronchiolitis, she ended up on formula, as my supply dried up. Her bowel movements settled for a while, although her vomiting continued (all day and night, small amounts), but for the last two and a half weeks she has had watery, mucousy stools, her vomiting is the same, she seems quite happy in herself and continues to feed. Baby rice has made no difference to her vomiting and neither has ranitidine syrup (two weeks of treatment so far- 3 times a day). As I went through milk allergy with my son I am obviously beginning to wonder if this could be factor for her? If she is allergic then she is following a different pattern to my son who got instant hives the moment he looked at milk, but he was about the same age when his presented itself. Am I just being over cautious here or should I get her checked out for allergy?
hi, i'm mother of 2year old son. he has cow's milk allergy, according the doctor. we haven't do test him. but the doctor diagnose it becoz when he is 5 months he had blood stool, during breastfeeding (i breastfeed him until 19months, full not mix with any formula until 17 months) when 17 months i gave him UHT and after 1 week he had blood stool again. and the doctor said i must give him neocate milk.when 20 months old i tried to give him UHT again, and there is no blood stool, but he had cough. the doctor said i have to avoid cow's milk until 3 year old, then i can try again.my question is:1. is it true diagnose without test? i only do food(milk) challenge2. it's very hard to get neocate in jakarta. do you know whre can i get neocate in singapore? or which online shopping that sells neocate and can shipping to indonesia besides amazone coz it's very expensive from amazone.thank u
My daughter is 14 months old. She was diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy type 1 at 4 months old... She cannot tolerate formulas with dairy or soy so when she was newborn we finally put her on Nutramigen. This has worked well, but since she is over a year old they suggested that she switch to something more age appropriate. Alexa has been on Neocate Junior now for a couple of weeks and every morning she has huge watery stools. Does this mean she cannot tolerate this formula? Her cheeks have also stayed really red. I am lost because I don't know what other formula is hypoallergenic and appropriate for her age. I'm afraid that the Neocate Junior is broken down too much... Please help!
My three month old son has developed a blotchy red rash on his torso, his neck and upper arms. I have visited the doctor 4 times and been given various creams and even antibiotics - none of which have worked. The rash looks slightly scaly and gets worse when he is hot. It is quite red in colour and very dry. The skin almost looks inflamed. I have stopped using even mild baby soaps on his skin and any form of moisturizer. The plunket nurse told me to use olive oil but this makes it worse. He gets very distressed if these areas are touched. He is still being breastfed and I have introduced a teaspoon of baby rice as he is a hungry baby and seems to really want solids ! He is also developing his first two front teeth. I would appreciate your help !Many Thanks,K. McLean
