Neocate Soothed Caleb’s Pain

Patient History: As soon as Caleb's mother brought him home from the hospital, she noticed he cried much more than her first son. In the following days, he began spitting up breast milk and seemed irritated and in pain. Caleb would only sleep for brief periods throughout the night.
“The constant crying and sleepless nights made a cranky baby and really took a toll on me as well,” said Caleb's mom Jill.

Nutritional Management and Outcome: At three-days-old, Jill took Caleb to the pediatrician for jaundice. After that, she took him back to the doctor weekly for weight check-ups. Jill continued to be alarmed with Caleb's constant discomfort. When Caleb was 10-weeks-old, the pediatrician referred Jill to a gastrointestinal (GI) specialist who, after running stool tests and an upper GI, diagnosed Caleb with gastroesophageal reflux, a food allergy related disease.
Jill went from treatment to treatment to try to help Caleb. After breastfeeding, she switched to a soy formula, followed by a milk-based formula, then Nutramigen and Alimentum. She also tried Zantac and Prilosec. But Caleb was still in pain.
Finally, the GI specialist referred her to Neocate Infant. At first she mixed it with Alimentum, but did not see real results until Caleb was fed pure Neocate.
At 15 weeks, Caleb's reflux symptoms reduced. He was taking Prevacid and using Neocate. Jill thought it was the Prevacid that was relieving Caleb's pain so she planned to wean him off of Neocate. However, after she fed him the first bottle of Neocate mixed with Alimentum, his symptoms came back. Jill now knew it was the Neocate making the difference in his life.

Summary: For Caleb, Neocate was the solution to his gastroesophageal reflux.
“Before trying Neocate, I was very skeptical,” said Jill. “After giving it some time, my Caleb went from discomfort, constant spit-up, weight loss, sweating, crying, sleepless nights and brief naps to a happy baby who sleeps all night, naps better during the day, spits-up less and cries hardly ever.”
