Happy Feeding with Neocate for Sreyan, a Baby with Severe Milk Allergy

Patient History: On the second day home from the hospital, Sreyan began inconsolably crying and continued to cry for days to come. At two weeks old, his stool became green and mucusy. At three weeks, he started experiencing symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). By the 4th week, his face was covered in a rash, from his eyes to his ears.

“Sreyan was crying from birth, and being our first baby it was very emotionally difficult and heartbreaking for us,” said Swapna, Sreyan's mom. “I felt miserable not being able to help him.”

Nutritional Management and Outcome: At three weeks of age, Sreyan's pediatrician diagnosed him with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and placed him on medications such as Zantac and Omeprazole. But the symptoms didn't all go away. The baby was still sick. After eight weeks, the pediatrician finally diagnosed Sreyan with a milk allergy.

On the doctor's recommendation, Swapna switched to Similac Alimentum. However, the symptoms grew worse over the next few weeks and the baby began to experience bloody stools.

Finally, the pediatrician switched Sreyan from Alimentum to Neocate. Swapna immediately saw a great improvement in Sreyan once he began the Neocate coupled with Prevacid.

Summary: Sreyan finally began enjoying his feeding time. He was sleeping through the night and growing into a healthy baby.

"Neocate transformed his life and ours too,” said Swapna. “We are very happy parents and I cannot tell how grateful I am to Nutricia for making Neocate.”
