Hypoallergenic infant formulas have a long-term allergy-preventive effect on allergic manifestations and atopic
eczema, lasting until 6 years of age.
These are the results of a 6 years follow-up, performed by german scientists, to investigate to investigate the long-term allergy-preventive effect of 3 hydrolyzed infant formulas compared with cow's milk formula (CMF).
In three years, 2252 newborns with atopic heredity were fed for the first 4 months, with either extensively hydrolyzed formula, or extensively hydrolyzed formula, or Cow’s Milk Formula (as milk substitute when breast-feeding was insufficient). Then, scientists monitored all infants until 6 years of age, to observe any symptom of allergic diseases, as atopic
dermatitis,
food allergy, allergic
urticaria,
asthma, and hay fever/allergic rhinitis.
Statistical data have shown a significant decrease in the relative risk of
diagnosis of allergic manifestations and atopic eczema in children fed with hypoallergenic infant formulas, compared to those that were fed with Cow’s Milk Formula.
